FROM BOOKS TO BRILLIANCE: TRANSFORMING OUR LIBRARY INTO A STATE-OF-THE-ART STUDENT UNION

After realizing that books were filling up the library and no longer being checked out, Oak Ridge is shifting to a digital library approach and thinking about how to repurpose the physical space and transform it into a vibrant, collegiate-like student union.

A high school library renovation will provide long-lasting benefits for students, fostering an enriched learning environment that supports both academic and personal growth. Modernizing the space will create an inviting, flexible atmosphere that encourages exploration, creativity, and collaboration. With upgraded technology and more diverse resources, students will have access to the latest digital tools, multimedia, and research materials to support their studies and enhance their critical thinking skills.

Improved seating, study areas, and quiet spaces will accommodate various learning styles, allowing students to work individually or in groups. Additionally, a refreshed library will serve as a hub for extracurricular activities, encouraging literacy, fostering a love for reading, and offering a safe space for students to unwind. The renovation ensures that students have a dedicated space where they can thrive academically and socially, benefiting them throughout their education and beyond. 

There are several elements to the transformation. Our goal would be to redesign the space with multifunction furniture, design a flex space to allow for art shows, staff meetings, and student gatherings. This renovation would provide a modern, comfortable and inviting environment for all.
